The new Audi RS6 Avant is finally coming to the US market, which means that fans of the supercar-baiting wagon now have no excuse in not buying one – apart from not being able to afford it.
Audi’s mega wagon is powered by a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine that also happens to be mild-hybrid; power is rated at 592 HP (600 PS) and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm) of torque, which makes the 2020 RS6 capable of a 0-62mph (100 km/h) in 3.6 seconds, 0-124 mph (200km/h) in 12 seconds and a top speed of up to 190 mph (305 km/h).
Carfection had the chance to take the new Audi RS6 for a quick road trip to Las Vegas, getting to know it a bit better over the course of two days.
Audi’s M5 and E63 rival was always considered a very capable, very fast machine, one that expertly combined performance and everyday usability; the same applies to the latest generation, which now is not only easier to live with but is also much more agile than its weight figure suggests.
Whereas previous generations of the RS6 were lacking a proper grippy front end, the new model inspires much more confidence to the driver on a twisty road. The rear-wheel steering makes a stellar jon at making the big Audi capable of munching almost every corner while the optional steel sprung suspension keeps the body under control while still offering impressive ride quality.
It might not be capable of lighting its rear tires on fire like the Mercedes-AMG E63 S -the only other 600 HP wagon you can buy- but the Audi RS6 was always more of a swiss army knife than anything else. And apparently the new generation is the best one yet.
